UrbanNest

A property management platform built to replace the WhatsApp groups, paper files, and scattered records that define how properties are managed in Nigeria. We co-created the product vision with the founder, then designed, developed, and secured the entire system.

The Problem

Property management in Nigeria is, for the most part, analog. Rent collection is tracked in notebooks or not tracked at all. Maintenance requests come in through WhatsApp messages that get buried in group chats. Tenant records live in paper files that only one person knows how to find. Lease expiry dates are forgotten until someone shows up asking questions. Financial reporting across multiple properties is a guessing game.

The founder of UrbanNest — a landlord and property operator herself — had lived this reality firsthand. She'd watched facility managers deliver poor service with no accountability, dealt with the frustration of having no visibility into her own properties' operations, and seen the same problems repeated across every property she or her family interacted with. The issue wasn't one bad manager — it was an entire industry operating without systems.

UrbanNest was born from a simple conviction: property management in this market needs to be digitized, centralized, and made transparent — for landlords, tenants, agents, and facility managers alike.

Our Role

This wasn't a project where a client handed us a spec and walked away. The founder came to us with a clear understanding of the pain points and a vision for what the solution should feel like, and we built on that together. We sat across from each other — sometimes literally, sometimes over calls — and articulated the product concept feature by feature, debating what mattered, what could wait, and what would actually change how people managed properties.

From there, KCT handled everything: product design, full-stack development, and cybersecurity. Given the sensitive nature of the data — tenant personal information, financial records, property documents — security wasn't an afterthought. It was built into the architecture from day one.

What We're Building

UrbanNest is a multi-portal platform — not one app, but an interconnected ecosystem where each stakeholder gets exactly the tools and visibility they need.

The landlord portal provides a full operational overview: properties, units, occupancy status, lease timelines, financial summaries, and maintenance performance metrics. Landlords can see total expected revenue versus what's actually been collected, track outstanding balances, identify defaulting tenants, and export reports — all from a single dashboard.

The maintenance and issues module tracks every request from submission to resolution, with priority levels, response time metrics, escalation workflows, and facility manager assignment. No more lost WhatsApp messages. No more "I told the caretaker last week." Every issue has a timestamp, an owner, and a status.

The tenant portal handles rent payments, utility payments (including electricity), maintenance requests, and visitor management. The facility manager and agent portals provide role-specific views of the properties they're responsible for, with accountability built into every interaction.

Financial tracking runs through the entire system — every payment, every expense, every outstanding balance is recorded, categorized, and reconciled automatically. The days of reconciling rent collection from bank transfer screenshots are over.
